Bouquets of the Heart

Beautiful, fresh flowers often don't last. Share a bouquet that lasts all year round!

Time Required:

1 to 2 hours

Materials Needed:

  • Construction paper
  • Crayons
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Paint
  • Sand
  • Plastic plant pot

Steps:

  1. Decorate the plastic plant pot with bright colored paints. Use handprints, or make stencils with sponges to create hearts, flowers, lips, and other designs.
  2. Fill the pot with sand.
  3. Make flower shapes from different colors of construction paper. Make two of each shape and attach them at the bottom with a little glue or tape. Look up flowers in a book to get ideas of different types of flowers you can create, like roses, daisies, tulips and daffodils.
  4. Use the pipe cleaners as stems.
  5. Inside each flower write a kind quote from someone famous or from people in your family. If you know the person receiving the bouquet, it is nice to make each flower say something special about them. The quote or kind words can be written on a separate small piece of paper which when inserted between the two flower shapes will become the bud.
  6. Arrange the flowers in the pot of sand and deliver them to someone who is lonely, sick or sad on Valentine's Day.
