Project Ideas: Mother's Day Projects

In 1915, President Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May to honor motherhood. This proclamation was the result of suggestions from organizations, individuals (including Julia Ward Howe), and groups. The decree may not have been finalized if it hadnýt been for 3,000 dedicated mothers who united to influence the world toward peace during World War I.

In honor of this special occasion, you can touch a mother in need in a special way. Here are some ideas:

  • Help an impoverished mother by providing supplies and clothing for her new baby
  • Help an impoverished mother, provide a blanket for her child
  • Help an elderly mother who is alone or far from her own children
  • Give her a gift of smiles and laughter
  • Giggle Bags or Happy Pills
  • Make her a special Motherýs Day craft.
  • See: Fantasy Flowers
  • Take a Mother's Day walk as a family with her
  • Adopt a Grandparent as a special Motherýs Day honor
  • Give a gift certificate for a "morning or afternoon off" to a new mother, or a mother of a special needs child. Have fun taking care of the child as a family
  • Give a homeless mother some needed rest: Morning Sleep-In
