Your family can bring cheer to patients with AIDs living in Coler-Goldwater Hospital in New York City . The patients at Coler-Goldwater are very poor. Some do not have any other place to go while they are being
treated and some do not receive any visitors from their families or friends.
Throughout the year, the Sisters of the Fraternité Notre Dame, of Harlem , New York , visit the 200 women and men afflicted with AIDS. During the Holiday Season they would like to provide the patients with a small holiday gift of toiletries, socks or T-shirts. A long time partner of FamilyCares, they have asked for help to cheer up patients during the Holidays and to let them know that someone cares.

Steps Involved
- Ask your children what they think it would be like to spend the holidays in the hospital. (While this is a collection for adults, you can check out the book, “You Can Call Me Willy – A Story for Children about AIDS,” by Joan C. Verniero, written for children ages 4-8. It explains some of the difficulties children face living with AIDS. )
- Package hotel size items in small holiday colored party bags with tissue paper or in plastic baggies or wrap in cellophane and tie with ribbons. Your family can put ribbons and bows on the larger items and attach the card.
- Make homemade Holiday cards and drawings. These are as important as the toiletries.
- Box the items and cards and mail to FamilyCares or directly to Fraternité Notre Dame by December 31, 2008:
